Why when you highlight something is it blue?

why was the color blue chosen to highlightWhy when you highlight something is it blue?
Blue is Microsoft's Default color... If you haven't noticed blue is everywhere on a Microsoft PC!!! Maybe its Bill Gates Favorite color!

I think blue is more noticeable and easier to spot. Red and yellow don't have good association in our minds, and green is hard to read. (Not to mention that most colorblind people can't see red or green.)
If your using IE you can change it.

It depends on where you're highlighting and what you're highlighting settings are. For instance, if I highlight on the web or on Wordpad, I getit highlighted in blue with white text. But if I highlight on Works I get black with various text colors depending on the color of the text before highlighting. Print Shop seems to use the black highlight on a white background but changes the highlight color depending on the background. The color of the text is the same as with Works.
